Gorgeous yarn! I just love those colors...
Regarding my Monkeys: I did indeed use 2x2 rib instead of the twisted 1x1 in the pattern. I also swatched again (in the round, this time) and went up a needle size (from US0 to US1), as I was trying to make the sock for a person with an even bigger foot than mine! (Also, when I cast on, I do it over 2 needles instead of 1 for extra give in the cuff)
